Abstract

The boundary element method (BEM) is used to predict the fa- tigue crack growth in a portable bridge. The predicted results are compared to measurements reported in [1] based on a full scale test- ing of the bridge. A reasonable agreement is obtained between the BEM and the experimental measurements for the fatigue life predic- tion. The BEM result for the critical crack size is found to be in good agreement with the test result. 1 Introduction Aluminium alloys are the most common material used for portable struc- tures mainly because of their light weights and high strength ratio. One example of such structure is a portable bridge used for military pur
