Abstract
Nonlinear behavior of reinforced concrete structures in relation with seismic acceleration parameters A. Elenas, A. Liolios, L. Vasiliadis, S. Tsalkatidis Department of Civil Engineering, Division of Structural Engineering, Democritus University of Thrace, ABSTRACT This paper describes in the first part some strong motion accele- ration parameters in the time domain. Further a classification of the ground motions at a site according to their damage potential is pre- sented. The second part deals with a nonlinear analysis of a six sto- rey reinforced concrete plane frame and the influence of the above acceleration parameters on the behavior of the structure. The atten- tion is focused on earthquake acceleration records in Greece. 1. INTRODUCTION The observation of building damages during strong motion earthqua- kes shows that the seismic damage potential is often not correlated well with the peak ground acceleration (PGA). Other, more appro- priate descriptors connected with th
