However, the problem of increasing traffic has led to new and improved materials being developed to satisfy these increasingly severe service conditions and the requirement for new design techniques to include for these. Current research efforts are aimed toward a fully analytical design methodology with the introduction of performance specifications, which would provide a more efficient product tailored specifically to the design requirements.
