Abstract
A new method for dynamic analysis of pile groups G. Wu, W.D. Liam Finn Department of Civil Engineering, University of British Columbia, Vancouver, British Columbia V6T124, Canada ABSTRACT Procedures are presented for the dynamic effective stress analysis of pile groups including non-linear stress-strain response. The pile group is analyzed as a unit and not as single piles with interaction factors. The procedures are validated using the data from centrifuge tests on a single pile and the 2x2 pile group. An interesting output of the analysis is the time variation of all the impedance factors to reflect the effects of nonlinearity. 1. INTRODUCTION Comprehensive seismic response analysis of pile foundations are based on linear elastic behaviour using either boundary element or finite element methods. Published results are limited to relatively small pile groups because of the substantial computing time required. Novak (1991) gives an extensive review of
