Abstract

A hybrid method of finite elements and boundary elements which combines the advantages of finite element method and boundary element method to analyze the seismic responses of underground subway tunnels excited by earthquake wave is proposed in this paper. The mechanical properties of the tunnels and its adjacent soil are modelled by finite elements, and ones of the external infinite soil domain with consideration of homogeneous and linear elasticity are modelled by boundary elements. The three dimensional seismic response are analyzed in frequency domain. The computational results show that the hybrid method is efficient in the analysis of subway tunnels. 1. Introduction The past earthquake damage has shown that some strong earthquakes can seriously damage to the subway tunnels, especially one's in soft soil. The dynamic properties of subway in soft me
