Abstract
This work describes centrifuge testing applied to the investigation of earthquakes. An elastic system excited by explosives, whose frequencies could be modified by altering the elastic properties of the vibrating system, was selected to simulate the external forces produced by an earthquake. The frequency distribution of the acceleration spectrum can by modified by varying the characteristics of the nonlinear elastic system and the magnitude of the explosion. A mass-concentrated model was used to numerically simulate the earthquakes in a centrifuge. Comparison of the numerical simulation results with those of a real earthquake via a one-third-octave-band spectrum analysis revealed that good agreement ca
