Abstract
This research is conducted to evaluate the liquefaction potential in El-Fayoum, an area that had been badly affected by several recent and historical earthquakes. Examination of prevailing soil profiles and grading properties indicates the existence of shallow saturated loose sandy or silty sand layers in soil deposition associated with high water level which are vulnerable to liquefaction. The potential risk has been evaluated by two empirical methods based on field data and field test-seismic behaviour correlation. It is concluded that the liquefaction hazard in a number of sites is quasi certain or likely during future earthquakes. 1 Introduction Soil liquefaction is a physical phenom
