Abstract
Space and time derivatives in transient BEM analysis of scalar wave propagation problems J.A.M. Carrer & W.J. Mansur Department of Civil Engineering, COPPE/Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro, Caixa Postal 68506, CEP ABSTRACT The expressions for space and time derivatives of Volterra's integral representation of the scalar wave equation are obtained by employing the concept of finite part of an integral. In order to verify the accuracy of the formulation, a numerical example is presented. INTRODUCTION One of the most interesting applications of the BEM is, perhaps, concerned with the solution of transient elastodynamic and transient scalar wave problems. After the implementation carried out by Mansur [1], many practical applications have appeared in the literature, consolidating the BEM as a powerful tool to be used in this area of research; e.g. Antes and Von Estorff [2], Dominguez and Gallego [3] and Mansur and DeLima-Silva [4],
