Abstract
Identification of beams by the method of added mass M. Skrinar, A. Umek Department for Civil Engineering, Faculty of ^T/ o/ ABSTRACT In this paper, a method for the identification of beams is presented. This method enables us to determine the mass and the stiffness matrix coefficients of a discrete mathematical model of a beam of which some eigenvalues of the original structure are known to us. In the course of the analysis small masses are added to the system under consideration and the changes in its natural frequencies are determined. The implementation of this technique is discussed on three models. INTRODUCTION In his book Inverse problems in vibration Gladwell [1] discussed the identification method for beams in which he altered their support condition and determined the resulting changes in their spectra. In this way he was able to obtain the mass and the stiffness matrix coefficients of the disc
