Abstract
Numerical model for the prediction of motion responses and mooring loads of offshore structures D. Wang", M. Kator/ ^Department of Ocean Engineering, South China University of Technology, China Hong Kong Polytechnic, Hong Kong ABSTRACT Advances in numerical hydrodynamics now enable complete analytical treatment of the behaviour of moored offshore structures subject to adverse weather conditions. In this paper we describe a method of using wind, wave and current data to develop a mathematical model to predict the behaviour of offshore structures moored in shallow and confined rough waters. The model, which takes into account both the cost of moorings and safety of the structure, may be employed in the selection/design process of mooring systems and the prediction of mooring forces and motion responses of any type of offshore structure. The effect of nonlinear viscous drag and wave drift damping on the mooring system behaviour are accounted for. Mooring lines are simula
