Abstract
FE analysis of the effect of partial or complete loss of a column on the behaviour of the remaining flat slab floor G.S.S.A. Melo", RE. Regard o/ o/ Westminster, 35 Marylebone Road, London ABSTRACT A finite element analysis was conducted in order to study the effect of partial or complete loss of a column on the behaviour of the remaining flat slab floor and its relation to progressive collapse. A model with sixteen columns was investigated and two discretizations were used. Reactions and moments transmitted to the columns, obtained from these analysis, were compared with the actual ones for a sixteen column and nine panels waffle flat slab floor tested previously. This work was part of a research on the post punching resistance of flat slabs after local failure at the Polytechnic of Central London [1] where eight quarter scale (15 mm thick) solid slab specimens, twelve large scale (150 mm thick) specimens, four real size
