Abstract
Numerical modelling of time dependent deflections during construction of prestressed concrete bridges J.W. Flanagan, E.J. O'Brien o/ CW/, ABSTRACT The balanced cantilever method of constructing prestressed concrete bridges requires the accurate prediction of deflection at each of the many stages of construction. When applying a numerical deflection model to this problem, variations between actual and theoretical deflection predictions occur. Much of the inaccuracy in the numerical model results from the use of assumed values for the parameters which characterise the deflection behaviour. The purpose of this research project has been to enhance the predictions of bridge deflection by the development of a technique by which estimates of parameter values can be improved during the construction process. Deflections measured on site in the early stages of construction are used to increase the accuracy of the numerical model, and hence the predictions for later stages. The pa
