Abstract
The problem considered in this paper deals with reconstruction of plane stress tensors in domains with multiple interfaces representing the boundaries of subdomains. No boundary stresses or displacements are imposed; instead the stress vector across the interfaces is also accepted. Solutions in every subdomain are sought by assuming linear approximations for the complex potentials with unknown coefficients. These are found by solving a minimisation problem. An application to the geophysical problem of stress identification in tectonic plates is considered to illustrate effectiveness of the proposed numerical approach. Keywords: stress orientations, 2D stress tensor, complex potentials, plate tectonics.
