Abstract
2D seismic response in an elastic half-space confined by a fluid via BEM P. Santos & A. Tadeu Department of Civil Engineering, University of Coirnbra, Portugal Abstract In this paper, the seismic response rccorded by a horizontal line of receivers placed along the surface of the elastic homogeneous half-space and by a vertical line of receivers in the presence of a dilatational line source is analysed. The changes in the seismic response caused by the insertion of a fluid-filled cylindrical inclusion are also analysed. The half-space is confined by a fluid (air). Thc solution is obtained using the Boundary Elements Method for a widc range of frequcncics, which are then used to compute the time series by means of fast inverse Fourier transforms. The half-space surface is modelled with a number of boundary elements, defined according to the excitation frequency of the harmonic source, and in such a way that the surface can be discretized for a distance sufficient to fully reproduce the responses
