Abstract
The steady-state temperature and velocity field problem associated with direct-chill, semi-continuously cast aluminium slabs has been solved using the dual reciprocity boundary element method (DRBEM). The solution is based on formulation which incorporates the one-phase physical model, gen- eral DRBEM transport equation solution strategy, Laplace equation funda- mental solution weighting, and augmented thin plate splines for transform- ing the domain integrals into a finite series of boundary integrals. Realistic non-linear boundary conditions and temperature variation of all material properties are included. Two-dimensional test case solutions are shown. 1 Introduction Direct-chill (DC) casting is currently the most common semi-continuous casting practice in produ
