Abstract
In this paper a coupled 2D BEM and FEM formulation in the time domain is presented. The coupled BEM and FEM is implemented with both the direct and indirect BEM formulation for plane strain problems in the time domain. In the implementation of the BEM a new integration principle is applied, where the causality of Green's functions is used. The method is applied to the socalled alluvial valley problem in soil dy- namics, where a confined non-homogeneous or non-isotropic elastic material is surrounded by an infinite linear elastic, homogeneous, isotropic medium. The novelty of the paper concerns coupling of both direct and indirect BEM with the FEM. The wa
