Abstract
Crack interactions are analyzed using the Boundary Element Method. The analytically numerical method is used in the numerical implementation, where the regular and singular integrals on elements are estimated analytically. For two-dimensional crack interaction, the closed form of explicit expression for regular and singular integrals are used. The accuracy of the calculations is high. An interesting finding for the crack interaction, so-called interaction theorem, is presented for two-dimensional aligned cracks under tensile loading. The extension of the theorem are discussed for n aligned cracks and cracks under shear loading. For three-dimensional crack interaction, the SIFs on crack edges are simulated as driving forces in an equilibrium system are proposed in the paper. 1.
