Abstract
The hydrodynamic analysis of propellers is considered. A boundary element method for potential flows with a nonlinear free wake model is used. The wake shape is determined as a part of the solution through a nonlinear algorithm that is solved iteratively. The wake is described as a vortex lattice and a finite vortex core is introduced to avoid numerical instability. Comparisons between numerical results and experimental measurements for DTRC 4119 propeller are presented. 1 Introduction The aim of this paper is to present a free wake model for marine propellers based on a boundary element method for potential flows. An accurate de- scription of the trailing vorticity path is of fundamental importance in the prediction of propeller performance. The effect o
