Abstract

This paper presents an approach to the global optimisation of a ship's Impressed Current Cathodic Protection (ICCP) system using the boundary element method coupled with "Simulated Annealing" (SA) algorithm and search methods. Boundary element technology provides the high accuracy solution to the anode currents and protection potential on the ship hull. The SA algorithm is used to identify the global minimum, while direct search method is to ensure the actual minimum is efficiently found. Introduction The design of electromagnetic devices using global optimisation methods has attracted increasing attention in recent years [5 - 7]. Global design optimisation in corrosion protection was previously investigated by [8, 9
