Abstract
The Boundary Integral Equation (BEI) derivatives are used to compute the derivatives of the response with respect to a design variable of elasto- static problems. The numerical solution procedure for the derivative BIE follows the same techniques of discretization and numerical approximation as applied for the response analysis. In order to avoid the difficulties en- countered with the numerical evaluation of hypersingular integral, the sen- sitivity derivatives of stresses at a boundary point x, are obtained by direct differentiation of the tangential strains at that point, expressed in the local coordinate
