Abstract
This paper introduces the use of isoparametric boundary elements for the analysis of thick Reissner plates in bending. Boundary integral expressions are divided into regular and logarithmic parts, and an appropriate quadrature method is employed for each part. Special techniques have also been implemented to deal with divergent integrals and corner problems. Several case studies have been attempted, and results were compared with those obtained from corresponding analytical solutions. The accuracy improvement gained from the use of isoparametric elements has been noticed specially with coarse meshes, and such elements have led to a very accurate estimation of stress components at boundary and internal points. 1 Introduction The boundary element analysis
