Abstract

An efficient linear multi-region BEM algorithm is presented for the analysis of soil-pier interaction. In this algorithm, a novel infinite boundary element technique is employed to evaluate the integrals over the infinite ground surface. Additional equations which are required to supplement the fundamental boundary integral equations for treatment of the corners and edges in discontinuous geometric problems are derived. Using these equations, the multi- region system of equations are established by a sub-structure technique. Finally, numerical results is given for a square-section pier embedded in a semi-infinite medium. 1 Introduction To analyse soil-pier interaction by means of the BEM\ two important issues must be addressed. The first is the infinite boundary element problem which must be solved to dea
