Abstract

A direct boundary element method formulation is developed for the static bending analysis of stiffened plates. The bending, torsional, warping rigidities and the eccentricity of the stiff en ers are included in the formulation making the analysis applicable to plates supported by beams of arbitrary cross section. Numerical studies have been conducted for plate systems with a variety of boundary conditions and number of stiffeners to determine the efficacy of the present model. Comparison with the published results indicate good agreement. 1 Introduction Stiffened plate structures, which consists of a series of plates connected via beams of open or closed section, are extensively used in aircraft, ships, bridges and various buildin
