Abstract
An elastoplastic analysis of plane strain and axisymmetric contact problems is performed by the boundary element method and using an initial stress for- mulation and von Mises yield criterion. Numerical examples are presented and show to be in a reasonable agreement with available solutions. 1 Introduction The boundary element method can be regarded as the most important com- plement of the finite element method, and, in some aspects, the former has been developed as a powerful alterative to the latter. The elastic contact problem is one of such fields since the nonlinear features are only caused by the contact boundary conditions, and BEM is especially suitable to describe the variation of contact boundary conditions.
