Abstract
This work deals with the relation between the accuracy and the physical relevance of the numerical solution of a system of conservation laws and the evaluation of nonlinear dynamics of a mass-gas system. A hybrid Eulerian- Lagrangian approach which takes into account additional equations repre- senting dynamics of some removable diaphragms, together with a suitable evaluation of the numerical flux function, is proposed. Impulsively acceler- ated mass and the related propagation of a compression disturbance or an expansion fan supports the validity of the approach by comparing analyti- cal and numerical prediction. Properly designed numerical experiments are performed in order to simulate resonance phenomena. The obtained results should contribute to provide a better comprehension to the phenomena of cavi
