Abstract
We present a 2-D Navier-Stokes solver for calculation of incompressible turbulent flow with emphasis on the vapor/liquid interface of sheet cavita- tion. For direct simulation of free surfaces a Chimera grid scheme is used which allows the accurate resolution of cavitation regions. To avoid the singularities at the leading and trailing edge of the cavity we introduce a transition model. As examples, sheet cavitation is calculated for turbulent flow, RCL = 2 • 10", over a NACA 0012 hydrofoil with an angle of attack of a = 5°. 1 Introduction Cavitation occurs in nearly every hydraulic machinery and causes erosion and loss of efficiency. The main types are bubble cavitation, sheet cavitation and cloud cavitation. For each type a free surface, i.e. the vapor/liquid interface, is formed i
