Abstract

The ALE technique enables to treat a wide range of industrial applications in which the frontiers of the fluid domain evolves in time and its main difficulty lies in the treatment of the time derivative. This paper presents in detail the scheme deviced to solve this problem and actually implemented within the industrial Finite Element code N3S. A 70,000 nodes 3D application is shown and its results compared with experimental data so as to validate the approach. 1 Introduction We are interested in the discretization of the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations in a time dependent domain, for instance, due to a displacement of a solid structure. We focus only on the computation of the fluid flow and assume the structur
