Abstract
The paper describes work done at Glasgow Caledonian University. A test rig for testing profiled sheeting was designed and built to BS5427 requirements. Distributed load tests were carried out on standard profiled sheets. A theoretical analysis using a finite element program was also carried out for the same geometry and load conditions. The results were compared with the experimental values from the test rig and the commercial load tables relevant to the profiled sheets. 1. Introduction Profiled sheeting is widely used externally and internally in commercial buildings. When used externally for walls and roofs, it is referred to as cladding and although not meant to be a structural member, it must be able to carry its own weight, climatic loads such as those imposed by snow, water and wind and maintenance load
