Abstract
Prediction of the structural integrity of high temperature nuclear reactors in the presence of excessive thermal loads is of concern in assessments of the safety of structures. A mathematical model which simulates coupled heat and mass transfer in cementitious structures exposed to extremely high temperatures is developed and solved numerically. The effects of fire on protected and unprotected concrete walls is investigated by means of the prediction of pore pressure and temperature redistribution. 1 Introduction Cementitious concrete is a fine porous system filled with adsorbable and evaporable water. In the presence of high temperatures, convective and diffusive mass and heat transfer are involved simultaneously in concrete. As a result, convective mass flow of gaseous mixture towards the heated and/or cold s
