Abstract
Relationship between frequency and the axial force of the Euler column using the Hermitian displacement expansion J. Al-Duaij Department of Civil Engineering, University of Kuwait, ABSTRACT The free vibration of the Euler-Bernoulli with the presence of an axial load is studied. An Euler column is considered to find the relationship between the fundamental frequency and the axial force. A variational method is implemented to approximate the solution utilizing the principle of stationary potential energy with a suitable displacement expansion, i.e. the Hermitian interpolating polynomial. INTRODUCTION A complete cubic Hermitian displacement expansion is assumed to approximate the deflected shape of the column. The modified stiffness is obtained through the principle of minimum potential energy which states: "Of all possible kinematic ally admissible deformation fields in elostic conservative systems, for a specified level
