Abstract
A modified k† e model for the prediction of fluid flow around a submerged spheroid Z. Virag," G. Trincas* " Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, University of Zagreb, Croatia * Department of Naval Architecture, University of Trieste, Italy Abstract An improvement of the standard k — e model is introduced on the as- sumption that the production of the turbulent kinetic energy is proportional to the square of the vorticity tensor. The effects of the standard and modi- fied k — e turbulence models are compared with each other for the turbulent flow around a fully submerged spheroid by adopting a finite-volume numeri- cal method in body-fitted coordinates. The results obtained by applying the modified turbulence model are in better agreement with the experimental data. Introduction The present study was motivated by problems associated with the prediction of the drag coefficient of a fully immersed
