Abstract
Natural convection in a rectangular cavity is experimentally and numerically investigated in this work. A simple cavity is studied firstly and the influence of an internal body on the heat transfer is investigated next. Interferograms obtained from holographic interferometry are compared with computed temperature contours, and the Nusselt number derived from the interferograms is compared with the predictions. The influence of the location of the internal body on the heat transfer is investigated. It is shown that the predicted temperature contours are similar to the interferograms. The evaluation of the local Nusselt number along the hot wall closely follows the measurements for the simple cavit
