Abstract
A boundary element model is developed to calculate problems of wave interaction with a porous structure. The boundary integral equations are formulated for the individual wave and porous regions. The matrix equations of the two regions are combined into one matrix utilizing the matching kinematic and dynamic conditions at the interfacing boundary. The boundary element formulation for wave interaction with an impermeable structure is also outlined in which only the kinematic matching condition is used. Numerical results calculated from the present boundary element model are compared with analytic solutions to show accuracy of the model. Using the two models, effects of the porous structure compared to the impermeable one are demonstrated. 1 Introduction The design of the submerged breakwaters deployed in coastal areas is based on the concept that these structures can pro
