Abstract
A path-independent surface integral is derived for the calculation of the stress intensity factor in three dimensions; it is similar to an existing contour integral developed for two dimensional problems. The integral is based upon a type of Green's function, which is used in conjunction with Betti's reciprocal theorem. The proposed integral is used to evaluate stress intensity factors for different benchmark problems, and the results are found to be in good agreement with the values found in previous analyses. 1 Introduction In the field of aerospace engineering it is imperat
