Abstract

If electromagnetic problems are solved by finite elements, the computation for problems involving infinite space causes difficulties. One possibility to treat such problems is the coupling of finite elements and boundary ele- ments, referred to as BEM-FEM coupling. The physical problem is decom- posed into a BEM part, which represents the surrounding air space as well as prescribed charges and/or currents, and a FEM part. This part contains magnetizible and/or eddy currrent carrying media. In this paper several examples will be presented to illustrate these considerations. 1 Potential problems For the sake of simplicity, we explain the BEM-FEM coupling method using Poisson's equation Ay? = / to be solv
