Abstract
This paper presents an application of the Boundary Element Method (BEM) coupled with a Simple Genetic Algorithm (SGA) for optimizing pumping in aquifer management problems. The numerical results show that the proposed optimization method is a powerful alternative to exisitng techniques combining mathematical programming with finite element method for the management of ground water resources.
