Abstract
Analysis of singularities in composite materials byBEM F. Paris, A. Blazquez, J. Canas, V. Mantic* ETSII, University of Seville, Av. Reina Mercedes s/n, 41012 Sevilla, Spain Abstract The paper deals with the study of the singular stress fields that appear at the corners of the off-axis tension test of composites. The numerical solution obtained using the Boundary Element Method is compared with the local singular analytical solution deduced for this particular case. An extracting singularity procedure permits its evolution to be studied as a function of the fiber orientation angle, showing that the highest values of the singularity are obtained when the fibers are oriented forming 45 degrees with the two sides of the free-clamped corner that appears in the off-axis tension test. The results obtained numerically for the value of the singularity using BEM are in good agreement with the analytical values, which makes the procedure suitable to evaluate the weight of the singul
