Abstract
A procedure for the semi-analytical evaluation of generally singular integrals that occur in the three-dimensional boundary element analysis N.A. Dumont Civil Engineering Department, Pontificia Universidade Catolica do Rio de Janeiro, 22453-900 Rio de Janeiro, Brazil I Introduction This paper discusses together with Reference [1] some basic issues that are being dealt with in a more extensive article [2]. This is the continuation of a research line started some years ago [3], in which one aims at achieving a simple, unified, numerically accurate technique for the evaluation of quasi-singular, singular and strongly singular linear and multiple integrals [4, 5, 6, 7, 8,]. The thesis advocated herein is that all kinds of integrals, linear or multiple, regular or not, may be evaluated (in terms of finite parts, whenever applicable) by Gauss- Legendre quadrature plus an eventual correction term. A code implemented with such a technique is simple, robust and economical. Appa
