Abstract
A new approach for solving exterior problems with the dual reciprocity boundary element method S. Zhu, Y. Zhang Department of Mathematics, The University of Wollongong, Wollongong, NSW 2500, Australia ABSTRACT The dual reciprocity boundary element method (DRBEM) is so far the most successful boundary element method in dealing with general elliptical partial differential equations posed in bounded regions. In 1988, Loeffler and Mansur* extended DRBEM to exterior problems. In their interpolation functions, there was, however, a constant involved, the choice of which was not clear. In this paper, a new approach to exterior problems is presented, in which a mapping is constructed so that a large number of exterior problems encountered in engineering and applied mathematics can be solved by solving equivalent interior problems. Although there are certain regularity conditions attached to such a mapping, they can be easily satisfied if the unknown function satisfies ce
