Abstract
Practical object-oriented state-based unit testing H.G. Reed," C.D. Turner^ J.B. Aibel" & J.T. Dalton" ^Marcam Corporation, Newton, MA, USA ^Microsoft Corporation, Redmond, WA, USA ABSTRACT Although traditional testing technology can be applied in object-oriented software development, object-oriented software is structured differently from traditional software and thus requires new solutions. The first part of the solution tests class-based production software with class-based unit tests. T^e second part of the solution takes advantage of state-based testing techniques where applicable. State-based testing methodology, developed at University of Durham, England focuses on the communication of an object's operations via its state. Mar cam Corporation is developing large object-oriented products (>1000 C++ classes) for the process manufacturing industry and requires a commercially viable and theoretically sound testing technology.
