Abstract
A hierarchical structuring method of knowledge-based systems is proposed for flood control supporting. In this method, an inference system is com- posed of several groups of knowledge-based systems, each of which deals with a partial issue of flood control ploblems. Each group consists of sev- eral subordinate knowledge-based systems and a meta-knowledge system. Subordinate systems make different outputs based on different information about the same problem. Then the meta-knowledge system derives a final conclusion with reference to these outputs. This structuring enables us to use incomplete knowledge effectively for decision of reservoir release in a flood. Introduction There is a growing need for decision support syste
