Abstract
Team design involves several different and interdependent groups of people working together to design and develop a desired artifact, and is the key to competitive product development. This paper addresses the analysis, modeling and computer-based implementation of team design. We focus specifically on the constraint management task of very large and heavily coupled design problems. The central idea is the interdependence measure (IM) of the model equations. The proposed team design algorithm uses the measure to decouple interacting systems and to generate the most efficient design sequence. The paper includes a poppet valve example that illustrates the proposed team design scheme. 1 Introduction Team design involves different and interdependent groups of people (agents) operating together to design a product.
