Abstract
A study of the physical oceanographic environment in Ise Bay, on the south coast of central Japan, illustrates the potential of applying a Geographical Information Systems (GIS) approach to the analysis of marine ecosystem processes. Design of this project which modified the 'traditional' terrestrial approach, paid particular attention to the large degree of the spatial variability and temporal dynamism of the marine environment. The success in visualising and analysing the oxygen depletion process
