Abstract
This article describes a GIS designed to facilitate overall planning and management for the coasts of the Mexican Republic, making possible control of the use of these zones for tourism, urban or industrial occupation as well as highlighting areas of high risk from natural events and underlining ecological considerations. The system is composed of four modules, which are integrated at different levels. The first is a database of all the historical documents pertaining to concession holders, the current and future land uses of the coastal zones, physical and legal data, plans and photographs of sites.
