Abstract
Building Knowledge Support in Scientic Computing with Object Technology Timothy J. Ross and Ward Deng Department of Civil Engineering, University of New Mexico Albuquerque, NM 87131, USA E-mails: ross@unm.edu, Ward.Deng@KachinaTech.COM Abstract This paper illustrates a prototype system under development that is designed to introduce knowlege level support to the scientic computing evironment. Object- oriented concepts are used in constructing the underlining computing system, and knowledge support facilities are treated as add-ons to this object system. After analyzing the knowledge structure of scientic computing environment, a knowledge representation scheme is proposed. The prototype system design considers parallel computing, visualization, as well as a client-server network model which is potentially feasible to be implemented into an Internet-based supporting system. 1 Introduction The goal of scientic computing is to help humans to discover unknown worlds, verify new theories, or
