Abstract
The paper describes the preliminary results of an investigation on the motivation of staff on quality related issues. A group of companies were identified, ranging from small firms with less than ten employees, to multi national companies. The range of the products associated with the companies was chosen to provide a wide range, from a software house to a retail establishment. In each case, the quality related issues for the IT department was the major consideration. The need for continued motivation of staff on quality related issues is discussed. 1 Introduction The increased awareness of quality by management and the need for companies, both large and small, to embrace quality, at least in principle, has now arrived.
