Abstract
An Al-based decision support tool for concurrent product development activity D. Bayliss, A.Taleb-Bendiab Department of Mechanical Engineering, Design and Manufacture, The Manchester Metropolitan University, Manchester Ml 5GD, ABSTRACT It is well documented that decisions taken throughout the design stage are often critical to a design product's competitiveness. A DEcision-Aided Concurrent Engineering system (DE-ACE) under development analyses a considered design product and then it suggests product's improvements from many perspectives, such as, design, manufacture, assembly, reliability and recycling The improvement suggestions are then explored by the designer to be incorporated (or rejected) in the final product solution An underlying concurrent global optimisation mechanism is used to control redesign processes from a global perspective. The developed optimisation method will be discussed and illustrated through a use of Rexel Ltd. Lo-Line tacker re
