Abstract
The development of a data file checker (DFC) to monitor the input to a Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) package has been described. The DFC forms one component of a Knowledge-Based Front-End (KBFE) which was embodied within a commercially available expert system shell, LEONARDO. The techniques of pseudo-sequential checking and mathematical parsing used in the development are discussed. The need to adapt software to circumvent shell limitations, as demonstrated here for a CFD application should help other developers of front-ends within shell environments. 1 Introduction Engineers o
