Abstract
The prediction of the effect of heat treatment parameters on the through thickness microstructure distribution in carbon and low alloy steels is of primary importance both for the knowledge of the mechanical properties of heat treated parts and for optimizing the thermal treatment. The aim of this paper is the application of a numerical procedure by means of fern analysis, in order to anticipate the through thickness microstructure. The ABAQUS standard code has been used for this calculation. The analysis is carried out in two phases: • a transient heat transfer calculation; • the intersection of the cooling curves with the CCT diagram of the materials
