Abstract
Experiments on engineering components show how important is the initial stress state due the elaboration processes with respect to service life conditions. So taking into account these will greatly improve the design process and help to find out an optimized initial distribution for residual stresses. A lot of work has been done on some elaboration processes or finishing surface treatments such as nitriding, shot-peening (Hamdane [1]), cutting,..., but in real components many processes could be implied and one cannot be sure to find a complete model to predict or evaluate residual stresses.
